Hi! Everyone, This weeks 'Featured Artist of The Week' is the talented Jazzy-Rock band LIGHT EMITTING DINOSUARS
1.Please introduce yourself
Hello! I'm George from Light Emitting Dinosaurs, who are wife and husband Nikki and George Lewkowicz and non-wife and husband Ethan James and Archie Wolfman from Brixton. We make funky, poppy, rocky, jazzy musical joy.
2. How did you get into music?
I had the very uncool way of getting into music of a piano practice from the age of 8. Thankfully at some point my teacher decided to teach me jazz and composition. Several years later after experimenting in storytelling, writing for short films, rock musicals and folk bands here we are.
3. What instruments do you play?
Synth and backing vox and a smidgen of guitar but not on this track,
4. Who are your influences?
Photo Credit: Richard A Jephcote |
Radiohead, George Gershwin, and everyone says Nikki sounds a lot like Kate Bush!
5. Tell us about your latest release
Soul Witch is the story of one of the witches from Macbeth as a science witch specialising in quantum mechanics. This makes a little more sense in my head, I wrote an accompanying choose your own adventure story which hopefully obscures things further, but made me very happy.
6. Whats your songwriting process?
This one started out as a much darker acoustic number with just the piano, and just for you lucky people, you can hear that here. Then we started jamming it as a band and added trumpets. Lots of trumpets. And suddenly it became a funky, poppy number. That's quite standard for us in that one of us will bring a song, then we'll completely change it when we get into the rehearsal room.
7. Which musician/ artist would you most like to collaborate with & why?
Oooh. Either someone awesome like Kamasi Washington who you could just let fly over anything - or Kendrick Lamar, that'd be awesome. But in reality I'd be too intimidated. Someone a little shit who'd really increase our exposure while still making me feel ok about my musical ability - Ed Sheeran?
8. If you were on a desert island what 3 musical gear would you take?
Yes! I am a nerd for the gear. But three items, aarrgh! 1, my laptop, I'm a soft synth man so that carries quite a punch (I'm assuming I have power). 2, my Seaboard Rise because it is squidgy and excellent and I can do slides on it. 3, my piano. It'd be difficult to get it to the island but I can't live without it.
9. Where can fans find your music (links etc)?
The new single is here! https://youtu.be/mHPyzY4bZ7Q
It'll also be on Spotify and iTunes etc. from Friday so I don't have the links yet.
I ouwld like to say a huge thank you to LIGHT EMTTING DINOSAURS for taking part in this weeks 'Featured Artist Of The Week' ??
